Oslo - XINHUA

Health and care services authorities in Norway has put forward a proposal for a ban on the sale and use of powerful laser pointers without approval. "Strong laser pointers are a major issue for air traffic because it can lead to risky situations when pilots are dazzled, " Norwegian Health Minister Bent Hoeie was quoted by the Norwegian news agency NTB on Friday as saying. Laser pointers can also cause damage to the skin and eyes even over long distances and through indirect exposure. "Therefore we must prevent dangerous use of laser pointers," said Hoeie. The ministry is not alone for a ban on use of laser pointers in Norway. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Directorate of Customs and Excise in Norway have also been calling for a ban on powerful laser pointers. Under the proposal, Customs officers will be allowed to stop illegal imports of such devices.
