The number of participants in the Olympiads in 2011 was more than 4,000 students. The number of participants in this year's Olympiads indicates a very high growth in comparison with the previous year. Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students is the biggest nanotechnology event for school students in Iran. The purpose of this Olympiads is to improve the knowledge of the next generation of the researchers about nanotechnology and to improve the creativity of the students in the field of nanotechnology. The Olympiads is held in Iran annually in May by Nano Club, which is a subdivision of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council. According to the announcement of Nano Club, a sum total of 16,057 students from 31 provinces of the country have registered in the first stage of the 3rd Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students, among which 14,523 students carried out the registration process through the promotional institutes, while the rest registered individually. The first stage examination of the 3rd Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students will be held in 60 cities of the following 25 provinces: Hamedan, Hormozgan, Tehran, Khuzestan, Gilan, Isfahan, North Khorassan, Semnan, Boushehr, Kerman, Khorassan Razavi, Fars, Kordestan, Qom, Golestan, Kohgilouyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Ardabil, Markazi, South Khorassan, East Azarbaijan, Sistan and Balouchestan, Alborz, Ilam, Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiyari, and Lorestan. Similar to the previous years, the 3rd Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Olympiads for Students will be held in the two theoretical and practical stages. Students who qualify in the theoretical stage will participate in the practical stage in June, and the final winners will be introduced according to their scores at the theoretical and practical stages.
