Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has approved an action plan to develop optoelectronic technologies, the governmental press service said on Wednesday. According to the Cabinet, over the past years optoelectronic technologies had become one of the most important areas for innovation economy development of in industrialized countries. The European Commission claims that the global market of optoelectronics will reach circa $500 billion by 2015. “The roadmap implementation will allow producing civil use optoelectronics worth 50 billion rubles, issuing 500 optoelectronics patents a year and creating up to 60,000 jobs for optoelectronics producers and consumers by 2018,” the governmental said. Optoelectronic devices are used in telecommunications and laser technologies, healthcare, agricultural technologies, environmental monitoring, synthetic vision systems, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
