Seoul - UPI

South Korea's LG Electronics says its new smartphone that eliminates the gap between the glass and the LCD panel is 30 percent thinner than other smartphones. The smartphone codenamed "G" and expected to be unveiled next month has a unibody touchscreen that LG says eliminates the air space between the cover glass and the touch sensor to make the phone thinner, China's Xinhua news agency reported. The technology, dubbed "G2 Touch Hybrid," will enhance the touch experience for users by making their fingertip touch the screen without the glass that creates a barrier in between, LG said. "Our next smartphone will be a game changer for us because we were able to incorporate all the best-of-best technologies from our sister companies with one single objective in mind -- to give customers the best user experience that we were collectively capable of," said Park Jong-seok, president and chief executive of LG Electronics' mobile communications division. The new smartphone will also feature a display around 1.6 times sharper and cleaner than AMOLED displays thanks to its high pixel density of 320 pixels per inch, LG said.
