The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, has announced that the UAE has been re-elected to chair the Study Group 20 of the Internet of Things, IoT, and Smart Cities at the International Telecommunication Union, ITU. The UAE has been also elected to vice-chair the Study Group 2 on the Numbering Standard.
The announcement was made during the TRA's participation in the World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly, WTSA, which concluded recently in Tunisia.
The UAE representative in the ITU, Nasser Al Marzouqi, has been elected to chair the Study Group of IoT and Smart Cities. Saif bin Ghelaita, Director Technology Development Affairs in TRA, has been elected the vice-chairman of the Study Group of Numbering Standard.
Speaking on the occasion, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director-General, said, "The UAE enjoys the confidence of ITU member states, due to the tireless efforts of the UAE, as represented by the TRA, in all conferences and activities of the organisation. We look forward to continue the work according to a comprehensive and systematic plan to develop and empower the relations with the ITU, through constant participation in providing suggestions and opinions that enrich the work of the organisation, support its efforts and enhance its leading role of the global ICT sector."
