Mozilla on Tuesday released a new beta version of Firefox for Android that promises a more Android-esque interface and support for third-party plugins, among other things. "Firefox for Android Beta has all of the features you know and love like Firefox Sync, add-ons and tabbed browsing, plus a new Awesome Screen and enhancements to startup and response time, graphics performance and panning and zooming," Mozilla said in a blog post. The updated mobile browser includes an interface that "blends in with the Android user interface," Mozilla said. The company also promised performance enhancements and support for third-party plugins like Flash. "We are always working on a beta here at Mozilla, but this one is special because we've done a lot of extra work to add features, improve performance and address things that make mobile browsing faster and easier," Mozilla wrote. Mozilla said its latest release is supported on Android phones from Froyo to Ice Cream Sandwich. It does not yet support tablets or languages other than English, but that functionality is expected soon. The company is asking users to test out the new app and report any crashes or bugs. "We need your help testing everything from the faster startup and response times to compatibility for specific websites and graphics performance," Mozilla said. "This beta uses hardware acceleration to improve performance with your favorite Web apps, games or photos." The updated app is available for download now via Google Play.
