Caracas - XINHUA

The Venezuelan government launched Friday a new security measure to crack down on a surge in crimes. Under the move, the capital city is divided into 158 quadrants, and in each of them the security was beefed up by more police presence to respond to crimes after receiving reports by residents via an emergency hotline "With this new method, the police will be able to arrive within five minutes in any part of Caracas," Vice President Jorge Arreaza said upon the program's launch. To ensure a successful outcome, the government will provide more equipments, motorcycles and patrolling police cars, Interior Minister Miguel Rodriguez said. President Nicolas Maduro hailed via his Twitter account the launch of what he called "the smart patrolling," describing it as "very successful."
