Samsung Electronics will open a new era for camera with its newly launched Galaxy Camera as the era for film and digital camera ends, the company's senior executive said Monday. "The film camera era had continued between 1951 and 1998 before the digital camera era ended in 2011. Samsung will open a new chapter of camera with its newly released Galaxy Camera," Lim Sun Hong, senior vice president of Samsung's digital imaging business, told reporters at the event held in central Seoul. Late last month, Samsung rolled out the Galaxy Camera based on the long term evolution (LTE) technology, enabling users to immediately upload pictures through the high-speed fourth- generation (4G) network. It can be directly connected to Wi-Fi and third-generation (3G) network as well as the 4G LTE network. Powered by 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android operating system, the Galaxy Camera came with a 4.8-inch touch screen and a 16.3 megapixel back side illumination (BSI) CMOS sensor. "In London, Galaxy Camera was bought mostly by smartphone users as Galaxy device users already knew about their conveniences. Galaxy Camera was powered by 4.1 Jelly Bean like the Galaxy smartphone. We will target smartphone users,"Lim told Xinhua on the sidelines of the event. Kim noted that the Galaxy Camera has various advantages such as immediate sharing and easy-to-use user experience (UX), saying that the model is lighter than DSLR cameras that are heavy, bulky and difficult to use. The Galaxy Camera has better optical performance than compact cameras, Kim said, adding that the advantages of immediate sharing, optical performance and light weighting will boost demand for the model.
