Democrats making a donation to a U.S. presidential campaign this election are more likely than Republicans to have done so on the Internet, a study found. The study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found 57 percent of Democratic campaign contributions were made online while only 34 percent of Republican donors made use of the Internet for their campaign pledges, Mashable reported Thursday. In contrast, 87 percent of Republican donors donated in person, over the phone or through snail-mail, while 57 percent of Democratic donors have contributed offline, the Pew survey found. However, neither Democrats nor Republicans are more likely to donate in general, the survey said, noting 16 percent of supporters on both sides have contributed to a campaign in some fashion. Offline donation remained the most popular method of support, Pew said, but Internet donations have increased; of adults who contributed to a campaign, 67 percent did so in-person, on the phone or through traditional mail, while 50 percent donated online or via email.
