Google enhanced encryption for its Gmail service, according to its today’s announcement, so that customers’ data and private information will be protected from interception of the US National Security Agency (NSA). The protection extension will ensure that Gmail users be exempt from being snooped as the data travels from their machines to Google’s data centers. This move is out of the concern that people may reduce their online activities after the spy scandal of American government was exposed last year. Last year, leaked documents by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden disclosed that NSA had secretly tapped into links connecting data centers of Yahoo and Google, which outraged these technology companies.
