What is it? There are iPad cases and there are iPad cases. But Swiss computer accessories maker Logitech has hit upon a clever idea. Want your iPad case with a Bluetooth keyboard but can’t be bothered to fuss around with recharging it? Say hello to Logitech’s Solar Keyboard Folio which powers your keyboard with light, any light, and protects your iPad at the same time. No sun required. How does it work? Most Bluetooth keyboard for iPads these days require charging. And because they don’t need to be charged so often, it’s easy to forget, especially when you need it most. Logitech’s solution is to have that powered by light, natural or artificial, so you don’t ever have to worry about having enough power in your keyboard. Two solar panels on the case make sure your keyboard is fueled. No wires to fuss around, no need to plug it in anywhere. All you have to do is remember to keep the solar panel side facing up to a light source when not in use. What’s special about it? Besides it being one of the best iPad companions we’ve seen (I mean, it’s environmentally friendly too, hello?), the folio also makes use of Apple’s Smart Cover technology. This means your iPad is turned on and off when you open and close the case. The iPad can be propped in two positions: one for typing and one for watching videos, the later position leaving just the right keys exposed so you can play, pause and change volume. Once you’ve paired your device to the keyboard, it will automatically connect every time you open the case, ready to use. But in case you don’t want to use your keyboard, just take it off the nubs made for the two viewing positions. The Logitech folio has already received rave reviews from early reviewers. But for a detailed review, you’ll have to wait a little bit until we get our hands on it. When is it available and for how much? The Logitech Keyboard Folio was launched in the US and Europe this month for approximately Dh480. It will hit UAE shop shelves on 949.
