London - Arabstoday

At some point in the past decade, laptop sales started to exceed those of desktops. Soon after, we realised, ironically, that laptops don't sit too well on our laps for long. Slipping down and heating up, using laptops for an extended time can get quite uncomfortable. In addition to that, you're also adversely affecting the health of your laptop. The Logitech Lapdesk N600 is a portable "desk" that aims to address these problems. Its rubberised flat surface grips the laptop, thereby preventing it from slipping and allowing air to pass through the vents, and its heat-shielding design protects you from the heat emitted by the laptop. The result is a much cooler and more comfortable experience. What takes this Lapdesk from being just a "base" to a "desk" is the inclusion of a large 5-inch track pad that can be pulled out as a tray from the right side. The track pad supports multitouch for better scrolling and two distinct buttons for the clicking. While it may take some time to get used to the new positioning, the track pad works quite well and gives you more surface area than your laptop track pad. The tray also features volume buttons (up, down and mute) and a "Home" button. The track pad is connected to your computer through a wireless USB receiver — which is barely an inch long — and can be stored in the battery compartment at the bottom of the Lapdesk. It's powered by 4 AAA batteries and gives you usage of up to six months. There isn't a whole lot more to it. The Lapdesk has two functions, and it does those well. Its price, at Dh279, is definitely a little steep, but if you can get over that, you get a solid product that grips your laptop well and keeps your lap cool.
