London - Arabstoday

What is it? Samsung takes its dual-view camera a step ahead by making it internet-ready, just like the way we'd want it. Say hello to the DV300F. What do you mean by internet-ready? Well, Samsung's dual-view camera range, with an additional screen on the front for easy self-shoot, is quite a hit already. Now the Korean giant has introduced a WiFi option, which means you can easily upload pictures and videos from your camera to Picasa, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube. This also means you can now transfer files wirelessly to your computer or to cloud-storage accounts that are all the rage now. Another cool option is the ability to automatically back up those pictures and videos to your PC or cloud storage when you are in a WiFi range without having to manually do it. So what else is special about it? Besides its WiFi USP, the DV300F comes with a 16-megapixel resolution, 5x optical zoom and a 25mm wide-angle lens. While the front 1.5-inch screen is a clever option, which gives you a countdown on self-shoot mode, Samsung has added a nice little touch in that the tiny screen can play a short, animated clip which will get toddlers to actually look at the camera when you're taking pictures or filming them. As with many Samsung cameras now, there are some fun templates and options by which you can tweak your pictures: The picture-in-picture options let you merge pictures while the Artistic Brush effects help you give your picture that little extra edge. You can even freeze the background of a moving object. Point-and-shoot cameras are now competing with smartphones, some of which are now offering embarrassingly high megapixels and plenty of options. And the DV300F is a nice little addition to that mix, out to prove that to have the most fun out of taking photos and videos, you still need your camera. So when is it available? The DV300F was launched during Gulf Photo Plus in Dubai recently and is scheduled to be on shop shelves by next month. Updates PlayBook's mini keyboard Research in Motion introduced the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard, a new accessory for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet last week. The keyboard — with full qwerty — is ultraportable and connects securely via Bluetooth, and comes with a stylish convertible case that doubles as a stand for the tablet. It also offers an integrated touchpad that allows users to navigate and control the PlayBook as easily as using the touchscreen on the tablet itself. When the keyboard is active, the tablet's virtual keyboard remains hidden, freeing up the display. The keyboard uses the micro-USB charger that comes with the tablet, and the battery lasts up to 30 days on full charge. What's more, you can remotely access your Windows desktop and apps via Citrix Receiver. You can now pre-order at www.shopblackberry.com for $119.99 (Dh441). Dubai on calendar Dubaicalendar.com, that all-you-need-to-know website about the goings-on in the city, has just gone apptastic. The mobile app, available for free download on Apple, BlackBerry and Android devices, is now live. Promoted by the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), the website and the app are both available in English and Arabic, providing activity listings for events up to 12 months in advance. More coverage, one solution This one's for those with bigger homes and one wireless router. Cisco's Linksys HomePlug AV Powerline solution can help you extend your wireless coverage. All you have to do is plug in one of the two adapters into your existing routers and the other in another room where the signal is the weakest. Cisco says the Powerline transforms your electrical socket into an internet connection. Now available in the UAE for Dh349.
