An associated gas recovery through its reinjection at the Verkhnyaya Chona oil and gas condensate field will start at the end of 2014, Director General of the Verkhnechonneftegaz company (a subsidiary of Russia’s Rosneft integrated oil company) Sergei Fedorov said early this week. “Now, we are building a gas supply line. We have received appropriate equipment this navigation season: a big compressor of the GE company has arrived at the Ust-Kut river terminal. In the next few days, we will deliver it to the field to start the installation. Simultaneously, we are drilling gas-injection wells,” he told Itar-Tass. According to Fyodorov, the project is at an advanced stage. Alongside with the setting up of the gas re-injection system, Verkhnechonneftegaz carries out talks with Russia’s gas giant Gazprom on gas transportation for export through the Chayanda field, he reaffirmed. Nethertheless, Rosneft does not consider possibilities for industrial gas development at the Verkhnyaya Chona field on the model of the Irkutsk Oil Company, which has recently declared its intention to establish a gas-chemistry facility in Ust-Kut (a town in Siberia’s Irkutsk Region; located 310 mi. north of the administrative centre on Lena River.) “Currently, gas transportation looks to be a more efficient option in commercial terms,” Fedorov explained.
