Doha - QNA

Under the patronage of the Chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) Her Excellency Sheikha al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum set to host a conference on Olympic and peace education titled ‘Body2Mind’ at the Museum of Islamic Art from Thursday, a press release issued here today said. The presentations and panels on the first day of the conference will focus on Olympic education, while local educators will be engaged during the second day’s workshops. “Olympic education embodies a sports ethic by which it fulfils an integral educational objective. Here, two basic premises play a substantial role: The idea of peace and the ideology of Olympism, which encompasses the relationship between sport, culture and education,” said Dr Christian Wacker, director of 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum. The two-day conference sets the stage to present Olympic education programmes, discuss the philosophy behind them and create a platform for participants to network and learn from each other’s experiences. The conference will also be an opportunity for the guests to know more about the local institutions that are actively working to promote Olympic education in Qatar and across the MENA region, such as the Qatar Olympic Academy, the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Supreme Education Council and the Aspire Academy. Affiliated international organisations are the United Nations Office on Sports for Development & Peace, the International Olympic Academy, the International Olympic Truce Centre and the International School Sports Federation. For her part, Hamda al Mohannadi, manager of Education, 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum said, “This conference is a first not only in Qatar, but the region as a whole, and I believe that creating such a platform for Olympic education while including all the stakeholders involved, will build a better understanding of the idea of peace and the ideology of Olympism.”
