Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr Ahmed el Tayyeb received on Monday Ghana's Ambassador in Cairo Omar Sanda Ahamed.
The meeting took up boosting bilateral cooperation, and Al Azhar's efforts in refuting extremist ideology in western Africa.
The ambassador hailed the Ghanaian-Egyptian ties as deeply rooted, underscoring Al Azhar's role as the world's top Sunni authority.
The Grand Imam, for his part, signaled his willingness to bolster educational cooperation with Ghana by increasing the number of scholarships for Ghanaian students and organizing training courses for clerics in Cairo.
