"The encyclopedia of Iran" was unveiled during a ceremony in Tehran on November 8.During the ceremony held at the Book City, the director of Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia (CGIE) said, " We wished to present a national encyclopedia which would hold the Iranian's insight as well as their scientific abilities." The ceremony was attended by CGIE Director Seyed Kazzem Moussavi Borojerdi, Kourosh Kamali Sarvestani (director of Fars encyclopedia), Majd-uddin Keivani(researcher), Malek Husseini(scientific board member of CGIE) and Mazyar Jamali Mehr (scientific board member of CGIE), the Iranian book news agency reported. "The encyclopedia of Iran" is CGIE's 2nd research works and three of its volumes have been published so far. The book is a general and universal encyclopedia which is supposed to be released in 30 volumes as the first detailed general Persian encyclopedia.The director of Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia (CGIE) Seyed Kazzem Moussavi Borojerdi said, " We wished to present a national encyclopedia. For instance "Larousse" is presented in French however it is a universal dictionary. "Moreover German and English encyclopedias hold their own insights while we wanted to release an encyclopedia which would indicate the insight's of Iranians as well as their scientific capabilities," he added. Moussavi Borojerdi added, " First the name of "The great Persian encyclopedia" was chosen however the Scientific Supreme Council chose "The encyclopedia of Iran". The book isn't restricted to the Islamic World he added, and said, " Many researches have been executed on science. Even articles have been written in the world about literary figures and poets who aren't Iranians which indeed should be translated. " Our main guidelines are determined by the supreme council which exists in every section. A separate scientific council was established for "The encyclopedia of Iran" as well, he said.
