A one-day conference of imams from European countries has ended in Brussels by highlighting the message of peace that the Holy Quran sends to humanity.
"The main message that emerged from today's conference is that the Quran is behind a culture of peace," said Khaled Hajji, President of the administration of European Council of Moroccan Ulema (Islamic scholars) which organised the conference, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
"It has contributed to build a civilisation that has allowed for living together in peace. The Quran can contribute to recover the lost meaning of life in today’s digital culture," he said in concluding remarks.
"The Quran calls on us to mediate and extract universal values that would help Muslims in the West to harmonize the relationships between us and the rest of the society," said Hajji, a Moroccan scholar. He noted that the art of reciting the Quran is not new but has a history of more than 1,400 years.
The final session of the conference was devoted to recitation of the Quran by 14 reciters including a woman, from various Muslim countries, residing in Europe, KUNA reported.
