The special exhibition featuring Ali Ferzat’s cartoons will open today 13 September at the Atelier du Caire Atelier instead of the scheduled 14 September. On Thursday 25 August Ferzat was beaten by masked gunmen for his criticism of the Syrian regime. The incident angered human rights activists and artists. Ferzat has published his work in Syrian, Arabic and Western newspapers, including Le Mondein France, and won many national and international awards, including first prize at the Damascus Caricature Festival in 1980 and 1982, first prize at the Sophia International Festival in Bulgaria in 1987, and the Dutch Prince Claus Award in 2002. The exhibition will open at 7:00pm at the Atelier Du Caire, 2 Karim El-Dawla Street, Downtown Cairo. From ahramonline .
