The vandalism of monuments to Soviet soldiers killed during World War II in Lithuania "cannot be justified," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
The ministry said that vandals had painted the monuments in blue and yellow (the colors of the Ukrainian flag) in Lithuania's Akmene municipality on September 13 and 15.
"The Russian Embassy in Vilnius had issued a note to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry demanding urgent measures to clean up the monuments, punish those responsible and prevent similar provocations in the future," the ministry said.
