Istanbul - Anadolu

The most important piece in King Croesus' treasures "Golden-winged Seahorse Brooch" has been returned to Turkey on Thursday by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Omer Celik who headed a delegation in Germany to take the item after a long struggle by Turkish government. "We want all the items taken from Turkey in illegal and unauthorized ways to return" Celik said at Ataturk Airport of Istanbul. Celik also stated many countries resisted demands of Turkey over the stolen works. He also added "All the works taken illegally have to be displayed in Anatolia. We have nothing to say to the permitted works. We just want these works to be displayed in the world's best places." Celik said the work would be taken to the Anatolian Civilization Museum on Friday and would be exhibited in the museum soon. The piece had been stolen from the archeology museum in the western province of Usak in 2005. It had been searched abroad by Interpol since 2006. After it was found in German province Hagen, the piece was kept in safe deposit boxes of German Central Bank. Golden-winged seahorse brooch is pure gold and worth millions of Turkish Lira. The treasures are believed to date back to 6th century BC.
