Abu Dhabi - Arabstoday

The Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) in Abu Dhabi has announced its 2011 summer programme which will include a wide range of courses to be delivered at the centre's library. The programmes will run throughout July 2011, and will cater to young people aged between 7 to 18. Registration will begin on Monday and those interested are welcomed to attend at the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where they will be able to learn more about the courses available and register for those they find to be of interest. The courses will be held at the centre's headquarters in Abu Dhabi, says SZGMC. The programmes will include "Quran Memorization" courses. Male participants will be divided into two groups, one for boys from 7 years to 13 years old, and another for the age group from 14 to 18 years. The centre will also hold two sessions for female participants, as with the males, groupings will be divided according to the age of the students. The programme itself will be delivered by specialists from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments. These tutors will assist the children in understanding the rules of reading and reciting the Quran. The "Athan" course is directed towards children between the ages of 7 to 18. This course, over a series of eight lectures, provides instruction regarding the correct performance of the Athan. The "Photography" programme is directed towards males aged between 14 to 17 years old, and will be delivered by professional photographers. The focus of this course is to create a new generation of distinguished photographers in Abu Dhabi. The "Reading" course is available to both male and female students aged between 7 to 12 years old. The focus of this study group is to provide students with the skills to read and summarize literary works. It is hoped that this course will provide the children with the desire to explore literary publications, whilst identifying those students who display exceptional talent in this area. Talal Al Mazroui, Director of Events and Activities at the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, said that through its summer programme, the centre aims, to create an educational atmosphere for students during the summer holiday. Al Mazroui stressed that the Centre is keen, through its diverse activities, to educate the younger generations about the values and teachings of their religion. Through its imposition of the summer programme, the Centre hopes to encourage children to draw upon the wisdom and teachings of their grandparents. He further noted that it was hoped that, through these activities, the Centre would contribute towards the development of religious, ethical, scientific and cultural aspects in the young generation in Abu Dhabi and the various cities of the state.
