Abu Dhabi - WAM

The Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), master developer of major tourism, cultural and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, welcomed Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, on a tour of the Louvre Abu Dhabi's construction site. Sheikh Nahyan was greeted by Jassim Al Darmaki, Acting Director-General of TCA Abu Dhabi, and Ali Al Hammadi, CEO of TDIC, along with senior representatives of both the museum's development team and contractors.
As part of his visit, Sheikh Nahyan was provided with a detailed update on all of the museum's construction milestones achieved to date, as well as how some of the challenges, such as installing the Louvre Abu Dhabi's iconic dome, were resolved. Sheikh Nahyan expressed his pleasure at witnessing the advanced level of construction achieved on the world-class museum, and noted that the Saadiyat Cultural District is a source of pride for the U.A.E., and once it has been fully developed, it would further enhance the country's reputation as a global destination of arts and culture.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi, which is the result of an agreement between the governments of the U.A.E. and France, will be the first global museum in the Arab world that embodies the spirit of openness and dialogue between cultures once it is completed in 2015.
The museum will display works of historical, cultural and sociological significance, from the most ancient to the most contemporary, with pieces representing different cultures from around the world. The Saadiyat Cultural District will also be the home of the Zayed National Museum and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
