Deepening the research to Numidia and its symbols to identify new areas for studies on archaeology, history, language and culture of North Africa, on the basis of reflections between Algerian and foreign researchers, is the main topic of the symposium Masinissa which starts Saturday in Constantine (431km east of Algiers).
Under the theme "Masinissa: in the heart of the consecration of a first Numidia state," the conference, first of its kind, will be held from Saturday to Monday at the M'hamed-Yazid Cultural Center in El Khroub, (east of Constantine).
This town is known for its archeological site that houses what is considered by archaeologists as the tomb of the first Amazigh king of United Numidia, Masinissa.
Up to 22 thematic conferences on the geopolitical situation in Africa before Masinissa, his contribution to the emergence of a large Numidia State, the archaeological data concerning this era will be given by historians, archaeologists and academics from Algeria, United States, Tunisia and Italy.
The symposium, organized by the High Commission for Amazigh (HCA), is an opportunity to try to "fill the gaps faced by current generations about the history of Numidia" and launch a "broad scientific work for better understanding of the cultural, social and political history of North Africa, especially during the Numidian era," said the general secretary of HCA, Si El Hachemi Assad.
