His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletics Association and Honorary President of the Bahrain Sports Federation for the Disabled, has affirmed that his patronage of the Arabian Gulf Young Novelists Award2018 comes to confirm the capability of young people to accomplish the best innovation and creativity.
The award was launched locally five years ago under His Highness’s patronage, and its second edition will be for the Arabian Gulf region in March. The contest involves the seemingly impossible challenge for a competing young novelist to write a complete storybook within 24 hours.
"Culture is deep-rooted in Bahrain and this fact prompts us to draw on our Arab and Islamic values to launch cultural initiatives to boost youth contribution in the art of literary creativity that reflects the community advancement in the countries of the region. They have contributed tremendously to the enrichment of international literature although critics say it is still in need of more attention and appreciation in view of the remarkable preoccupation of youth with the this form of literature," His Highness said.
HH Shaikh Khalid pointed out that culture is the force that keeps peoples and communities move inexorably towards progress and help build a brighter future.
