H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, chaired the 3rd meeting of the UAE-Jordanian Joint Ministerial Committee in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The Jordanian delegation to the meeting was headed by Ayman Al Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
The UAE and Jordanian officials explored methods of consolidating co-operation in economic, trade and investment areas.
In his opening remarks, Sheikh Abdullah emphasised that the UAE views Jordan as a strategic partner as the two countries' leaderships were firmly keen to take bilateral ties to new heights.
''Ties between the UAE and Jordan are witnessing significant progress in various fields. Our bilateral ties are characterised by deep fraternity, harmony and co-ordination, especially in our stances towards Arab, Islamic and humanitarian issues,'' he said.
Sheikh Abdullah further stressed the need for the two countries to continue co-operation in the civil aviation sector as one of the enablers for the growth of trade, tourism and investment.
He praised the efforts being made by the UAE and Jordanian governments for facilitating logistical services and creating an environment that attracts trade and investment.
Al Safadi said the UAE and Jordan maintain long-standing strategic bonds thanks to the support extended by the leadership of the two countries.
''UAE-Jordanian ties have seen marked development, setting an example for relations between fellow countries,'' he noted.
The two ministers, in a separate meeting, discussed ways of enhancing distinguished bilateral ties, as well as a range of issues of mutual concern. Sheikh Abdullah lauded the relations between the two countries in economic, industrial, trade and social domains.
Al Safadi expressed Jordan's sincere desire to advance joint co-operation in various fields driven by the excellent bilateral ties and the good reputation enjoyed by the UAE regionally and globally, and its vital role as a facilitator of economic, trade and tourism co-operation in the region.
Later, the two ministers signed several Memorandums of Understanding, MoUs, including one on mutual financial and technical co-operation and another one mutual recognition of certificates of conformity and quality mark between the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology and the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Jordanian Ministry of Information and Communications Technology also signed a MoU to boost co-operation in communications, information technology and e-transformation.
The two ministers also inked a MoU for co-operation in green growth between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Jordanian Ministry of Environment. The UAE Ministry of Economy and the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, sealed a MoU for co-operation in the competition law and policy.
Another MoU for the registration and supervision of companies was signed between the governments of the UAE and Jordan. A technical co-operation protocol was also inked between the Ministry of Economy and the Jordan Investment Commission.
They also witnessed the signing of a MoU on Mutual Recognition of Certificates of Competency for Seafarers between the Federal Transport Authority - Land and Maritime and the Jordan Maritime Commission.
They also signed the implementation programme for cultural co-operation for the years 2017 - 2020, the implementation programme for higher education and scientific research for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the implementation programme for education for the years 2017, 2018 and 2020.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development; Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development;Dr. Ahmad bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Advanced Skills;Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State; and a number of senior ministry officials.
