Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit held a meeting on Thursday with UN chief Antonio Guterres to probe means of boosting bilateral cooperation.
The talks tackled issues of mutual concern and the latest developments in the region, spokesman for the AL chief Mahmoud Afifi said.
Abul Gheit called for achieving a comprehensive settlement for the Palestinian issue and establishing an independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital.
The two-state solution is the best if we want to reach a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian cause, he stressed.
The two officials tackled also efforts exerted to solve the Libyan, Syrian and Yemeni issues.
They also touched upon means of supporting Arab refugees, combating terrorism, maintaining the Mideast peace process and promoting development in Arab countries.
Guterres left Cairo earlier on Thursday winding a two-day visit during which he held talks with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Guterres also had talks with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on the latest regional developments.
The visit is part of Guterres' tour that includes Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, Oman and Qatar.
