Foreign Minister Assistant for the European Affairs Ehab Nasr met with Ambassador here Hennadii Latii on the occasion of the 25 anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Egypt and Ukraine.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Foreign Ministry said that the two sides hailed during the meeting the progress witnessed in the bilateral relations in various fields.
They expressed their keenness on having a new start in the joint ties.
The two countries inked an agreement to establish diplomatic relations in 1992 after Ukraine achieved independence in December 1991.
Cooperation between the two nations has been boosted in various domains especially, the economic and commercial ones.
Egypt is the first commercial partner for Ukraine in the Arab world and the second one in the Middle East region as the trade volume between them reached 2.1 billion dollars.
Ukrainian exports to Egypt include grains, iron, steel, oil seeds and minerals, while the Egyptian exports to the European country are citrus fruits, vegetables, seeds, plastic products and medicine.
The Ukrainian investments in Egypt reached about 240 million dollars.
Naftogaz Company is the biggest Ukrainian firms investing in Egypt as it explores and extracts petroleum from Alam el Shawish area in the Western Desert.
