Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza met several ministers from the GCC, Arab and other friendly countries on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability 2018.
This included a meeting with the UAE Minister of Climate Change and the Environment Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zuwaidi.
The two sides followed up on what was agreed at the previous meeting on the mechanisms of cooperation between the two countries on renewable energy projects, especially solar energy.
Dr. Mirza briefed the UAE minister on the steps being taken by Bahrain to set up a 100-megawatt solar energy plant.
The UAE minister expressed his desire to participate in a tender for the project.
Dr. Mirza said schools and hospitals will benefit most from the project and people would take advantage of the net metering system and benefit from renewable energy.
The UAE Minister reviewed the experience of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and pointed out that its experiment had resulted in several positives that have led to reduction in power consumption and in obtaining excellent economic returns.
He also spoke of the possibility of exchanging experiences and knowledge in the field of solar and wind energy and cooperation between the technical teams of both countries.
Dr. Mirza thanked his hosts for the warm reception and the hospitality and for the fruitful results of the meeting.
