Indian President Pranab Mukherjee
Windhoek - Arab Today

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee is set to start a three-day state visit to Namibia Wednesday, said a statement released by the Indian High Commission to Namibia ahead of the visit.

Mukherjee, the High Commission statement said, will be accompanied by Jitendra Singh, the minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office; two members of parliament, senior officials and the media.

"During the visit, discussions will be held on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest (with president Hage Geingob). The President will also address a joint session of Parliament of Namibia, and speak at Namibia University of Science and Technology," the statement further said.

India and Namibia enjoy longstanding, excellent and time-tested ties that predate Namibia's independence.

More than 1,000 Namibians have been trained in India under the ITEC program, while several Indian experts from government and private sector have been involved with policy formulation in the country since its independence.

Although the volume of trade between the two countries is small, the statement said, there is tremendous potential to further enhance trade and economic ties.
