Dr. Yaseen Khayyat, Jordan’s Minister of Environment, received Matar Saif Al-Shamsi, the UAE’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, at the ministry’s headquarters.

They discussed the means of co-operation in their bilateral relations and the means to develop them in the field of environment.

As the Minister of Environment, Al Khayyat highlighted the leading role of the UAE in the field of environment, especially noting that the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA, was on UAE land.

He also praised the sustained co-operation and co-ordination between the two brotherly countries, including their search for clean and alternative sources of energy, and the support for a few biodiversity projects.

Minister Al Khayyat discussed environment and investment projects, and emphasised the environmental conditions and standards placed on projects by the Ministry of Environment in Jordan to maintain public safety, and limit environmental and health pollution.

Al-Shamsi affirmed the UAE’s efforts for co-operation with Jordan in the fields of environment and alternative energy, mentioning several important projects supported by the UAE in Jordan recently, including the wind power project in Tafilah Governorate, the Kufranjah Dam in Ajloun Governorate and the Amman road development.
