Lebanese premier Hariri to meet Sisi in Cairo

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri will arrive in Cairo on Tuesday to meet with Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, state news agency MENA reported.

The Lebanese premier is also scheduled to meet with the grand imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayyeb, and Pope Tawadros II, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Hariri will also head the Lebanese delegation at a session of the Lebanese-Egyptian Higher Joint Committee.

Hariri’s visit follows that of Lebanese President Michel Aoun in mid-February, his first visit to Cairo since he assumed office, where he met with El-Sisi as well as Pope Tawadros.

The two leaders also discussed ongoing preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit, which will take place in Amman on 28 and 29 March.

Last November El-Sisi congratulated Aoun on his election and expressed Cairo's support for the Lebanese people in the face of regional challenges.

“Egypt was among the first states to congratulate Lebanon for its ability to reach political reconciliation without any foreign intervention while keeping the unique Lebanese model of coexistence between all segments [of society],” the Egyptian president said in February, adding that this makes Lebanon “a pioneering model in the region for resolving political conflicts
