Egypt's military spokesman Tamer El-Refai said Wednesday that preparations are ongoing for the Egypt Defence Expo - EDEX 2018, which will be held in Cairo from 3-5 December.

In a statement, the spokesman said the fair will be held for the first time in Egypt in cooperation between the ministries of defence and military production, as well as a number of British companies.

The event is set to host several major exhibitors and international companies in the fields of weapons, defence and security, displaying their products and services.

The event will be the first of its kind in Egypt or any other African nation, and will include high-tech defence systems from around the world, as well as Egyptian-made military hardware, according to the official statement.

More than 300 exhibitors are expected to be present, with 10,000 visitors expected over three days. There will also be a conference programme attended by senior military figures.
