European Union (EU) envoy to Sudan Tomas Ulicny, said that ambassadors of the EU countries in Khartoum will visit East Sudan soon to follow up on development efforts in the region, according to Sudan Tribune.
Ulicny on Tuesday briefed presidential assistant, Musa Mohamed Ahmed, on the progress of development projects funded by the EU in the eastern states, stressing that the EU has met pledges it made during the 2010 donors conference which was held in Kuwait to support peace in East Sudan.
He said that ambassadors of EU countries in Khartoum will pay a joint visit to East Sudan soon to follow up on the implementation of development projects and stability in the region, saying the envoys will also visit the Blue Nile state.
The EU envoy told reporters following the meeting that peace in East Sudan is crucial for stability in the country and the horn of Africa besides the security in the Red Sea.
He expressed EU’s concern over the increased number of human trafficking operations in the region including Sudan, saying they are keen to cooperate with federal and states’ authorities to fight against the phenomenon which represents violation for the fundamental human rights.
