Colombian-born actress Sofia Vergara is joking about how much she enjoyed watching her Hot Pursuit co-star and producer Reese Witherspoon as she struggled to speak Spanish in their big-screen comedy.
"It was not very good," Vergara, who is now a U.S. citizen, teased Witherspoon at a recent Los Angeles press conference.
"It's definitely not her best work. That was actually one of my favorite scenes because she had to struggle a lot. I could see fear in her eyes, anxiety sometimes, confusion. So, it was great because that's how I feel every single scene of my life, looking for words, and people doing faces even though they don't want to," Vergara explained. "So, I really enjoyed it. I tried not to help her that much because it was a personal thing that I wasn't experiencing that I really liked. So, now when I saw the whole movie, I was like, 'Oh, my God, now I understand also why people laugh so much at me.' It's hysterical to see someone try to talk in a language and look confused."
Helmed by Anne Fletcher, the movie casts Witherspoon as a Texas cop charged with protecting Vergara's witness, who is scheduled to testify at a trial against a drug lord. The film is in theaters now.
