British girl group the Spice Girls may reunite for a 20th anniversary world tour.
The pop phenoms reportedly made the decision last month amid growing fan demand and the impending anniversary of their first album, Spice, in 2016. Sources told The Sun Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell will reunite sans Victoria Beckham.
Chisholm and Bunton reacted to the report Friday, with the former tweeting, "Woke up this morning wondering whether I need to star practising my backflips???!!!" Bunton responded, "Do I need to put my pigtails in?!?!?," but later downplayed the rumors on her radio show.
"If anything happens and it's concrete, and we decide something, I will let you know, but nothing's happening at the moment," she told listeners. The Sun writer Dan Wootton followed up by saying "no official announcement will come until later this year."
Brown had alluded to a reunion last week on Today, saying, "Hopefully, you know, we'll gather the troops around and we'll get to do something to celebrate [the anniversary] next year." She also reflected on her "great memories" with the group, saying they "all still support each other."
The Spice Girls formed in 1994, and debuted their first single, "Wannabe," in 1996. The group released three studio albums, including the 1997 record Spiceworld, and starred in the movie Spice World the same year. The five last reunited on tour for The Return of the Spice Girls in 2007.
