Algerian feature-length films "Zanj Revolution," by Tariq Teguia, and "Loubia Hamra," by Narimane Mari, are competing in the second International Film Festival of Lebanon - Cultural Resistance, which opened Wednesday in five Lebanese cities, organizers said.
The Cultural Resistance event, to run until November 17, celebrates Algerian cinema, the only Arab and Mediterranean representative, to compete with two productions in fiction feature films section, along with movies from Asia and Europe.
Zanj Revolution, an Algerian-French-Lebanese-Qatari co-production, won several awards in France, in 2013, like the Scribe for Cinema Award and the Grand Prix of the 28th Belfort International Film Festival - EntreVues.
In addition, Loubia Hamra, an Algerian-French co-production, received the Best Documentary Award at the International Documentary Film Festival of Copenhagen, Denmark (2013), and three distinctions at the 24th International Film Festival of Marseille.
The film also took part in many festivals in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Turkey, Italy and the United Arab Emirates.
Forty films (old and new productions) representing fourteen countries from Africa, Asia and Europe will be screened at the Cultural Resistance Film Festival in Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon, Tyr and Zahle.
Tariq Teguia will attend the event as well as his compatriot, feminist activist, Wassila Tamzali, as cinema critics.
The films competing at the festival include "Nagima"(Kazakhstan), "A Light of Asia" (Germany), "La Voz Dormida" (Spain) and "Ilo Ilo" (Singapore).
