Carthage Film Festival (JCC, Tunisia)
Algiers - APS

The 25th Carthage Film Festival (JCC, Tunisia), one of Africa’s oldest international film events, will be held from November 29 to December 6 with the participation of fifty works from 36 countries in Africa and the Middle East, including six Algerian films, local media reported Wednesday.
The films "El Wahrani" (man from Oran) and "Loubia Hamra" (Red Beans) by Algerians Lyes Salem and Narimane Mari are the 15 feature films competing for the "Golden Tanit", the highest award of the JCC to be given by a jury chaired by US actor Danny Glover.
The section of short films in competition includes 17 films including Algerian works "The days before" of Karim Moussaoui and "level crossing" by Anis Djâad.
In the "documentary" section, which totals 17 participants, "El oued, el oued" of Abdennour Zahzah and "Site A" by trio Karim Loualich, Tarek Sami and Lucy Dèche represent Algeria.
Among the novelties of this edition, the same sources cite the organization of projections in six other Tunisian cities which will host a part of the competition program from November 30 to December 5.
In addition to the "national competition," devoted to the Tunisian short films, special sessions are planned under the theme: "Cinema of the world" and "Sessions show".
Tributes will also be paid to Senegalese filmmaker Samba Felix N'Diaye, considered as "the father of African documentary,"Syrian director Omar Amiralay and French filmmaker Maurice Pialat.
