Villa 69: Life, intimacy and death captured by first-time director Ayten Amin
Eyes of a Thief, the second long feature directed by Najwa Najjar, will make a home premiere on 9 September in Ramallah, Palestine. The film stars Egyptian well-known actor Khaled Abol Naga, with co-stars Algerian singer and songwriter Souad Massi and actress Maisa Abd Elhadi.
Inspired by true events, the film is centred on Tarek (Aboul-Naga), a Palestinian father who is released from an Israeli prison and returns to his hometown to find his daughter. By plunging the viewer into Tarek’s past, a sequence of events unravels the stifling nature of contemporary Palestinian society.
Egyptian silver screen magnate Aboul-Naga starred in several acclaimed films including Villa 69 (2013), Microphone (2010) and Heliopolis (2009), the three of which he also produced. He won an award for his role in Sahar El Layaly (2003), which he shared with the ensemble cast.
Besides her acclaimed singing career, Souad Massi has taken part in several films directed by Najjar including her 2005 short feature entitled Yasmine’s Song.
The cast of Eyes of a Thief also includes Malak Ermileh, from Balata Refugee Camp near the city of Nablus, and Ameer Kurt, from Jerusalem, both first time actors.
Eyes of a Thief is a co-production by Oktober Productions (Iceland), MACT Productions (France) and Laith Media (Algeria).
Following its premiere in Ramallah, Eyes of a Thief will screen in Yabous Cultural Center in Jerusalem between 10 and 17 September.
