Palestinian film, Condom Lead, is competing alongside nine other films for an award at the Cannes Film Festival 2013 this week. The film is the first from the country to enter Short Films category at the French event. Shot in a single day in Amman, Jordan the plot focuses on Israel’s war on Gaza in the years 2008-2009. During this period the region was shelled consistently for a week and experienced a land invasion which blocked off the coastal strip. An estimated 1,400 Palestinians were killed in the wake of the events. The film was produced by twin brothers Ahmad and Mohammad Abu Nasser, often known as Tarzan and Arab. Writer, Khalil Al-Mozain suggested filming the production outside of Gaza, due to the sensitive plot. It was filmed in Jordan instead last February. Speaking to Reuters, Al-Mozain explained: "We decided to produce it in Jordan because there is more liberty than here. We found a woman to act in the film. In Gaza, the government, the culture, the women will no (sic) accept this kind of movies to be filmed in the strip. It was hard to film it here because the idea is related to sex, condom and a child." The film is described as a dream of the hope for intimacy and love in a brutal, divisive world. The feature aims to portray the destruction of war and the consequences it has on a couples furtive attempts at marital intimacy. "I wish that the film will win, because it is a beautiful film and they could produce it in a nice way. I wrote the script, the idea is so new. It is not a traditional film about sex and war. It is a new idea that was never discussed in other films," added Al-Mozian.
