Seven ramparts of the citadel
Constantine - APS

The shooting of the film "Les Sept remparts de la citadelle” (the seven ramparts of the citadel" by Ahmed Rachedi started Tuesday in the Si El Houes Place, in front of Ahmed Bey Palace in Constantine, in the presence of Minister of Culture Nadia Labidi.

Based on Mohamed Maarafia’s novel, the film will be starring many actors, like Hassan Kechache and Youcef Sehiri who portrayed martyrs Mustapha Benboulaid and Colonel Lotfi, said director Ahmed Rachedi.

Produced by the Algerian Agency for Cultural Promotion (AARC) with support from the Ministry of Culture, the filming of 'The Seven ramparts of the citadel'' will take place in five provinces (Constantine, Algiers, M'sila, Mostaganem and Batna) over fourteen (14) weeks, added the director.

“The Seven ramparts of the citadel'' recounts, through the journey of the main character, ''the wrath of the Algerian, violently dispossessed of his land, the harsh reality of the colonizers, and the persistence to fight to restore his land.''

Ahmed Rachedi also is working to make “some films about the war of liberation,'' which represents a work on memory, aiming at “unearthing parts of the history of Algeria at critical periods'.

Noting that Algeria was permeated by ''a culture of resistance,” reflected through the course of its history, the director stressed the importance of “digging into the past and to cover a millennia collective memory.'
