A 2700 year old ancient city of Metropolis in the western province of Izmir,Turkey, which has drawn great interest by prominent scientists from Oxford and Erlangen Nurnberg universities, will be opened to visit after excavations have been completed in 2013. Excavations at the site of the ancient city of Metropolis have been continuing since 1989 and many important findings have been found, said Head of Metropolis excavations Serdar Aybek, also an academic from Celal Bayar University. Findings, mosaics, various jewelery have been found in the excavations and handed in to museums. Metropolis ancient city is approximately 45 km to Ephesus Ancient City and the Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods are represented in the ancient city.
