Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Sunday said that the UAE possessed advanced aviation infrastructure and managed to use technology to facilitate passenger traffic and make travel experience enjoyable.
In a statement on the preparations for the "Future of Borders", an international conference which will be organised between 11-12 March in Dubai under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, DCAA, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
Al Mansouri, who will be a keynote speaker at the event, said that the importance of the UAE in the aviation sector is reflected in the increasing numbers of passengers through the country's airports.
He further noted that Dubai International Airport (DXB) recently secured its position as the busiest airport globally for international passengers last year.
According to Dubai Airports’ traffic report, 70.47 million passengers travelled through DXB in 2014, an increase by 6.1 per cent from the 66.43m recorded in 2013.
He also noted the average number of air traffic movements in the UAE went up from just 342 in 1986 to 2250 in 2014, a six-fold increase.
GCAA expected the daily average to go up to 5100 air traffic movements in 2030, meaning the UAE will be one of the busiest airspaces of the world.
