London - Arabstoday

Sunny beaches and scrumptious food at the ever entertaining Daman Diu Long weekends are the perfect excuse to get away from the hustle bustle of the city life. And being in Mumbai, you are spoilt with a number of exotic locations from sandy coasts, to quiet hill stations, to private resorts, all just a few kilometres away and in easy reach by car, train or plane. All you need to do is pick a place and get ready for a rejuvenating experience. Daman and Diu are islands off the coast of Gujarat. They are well connected to the mainland through bridges and ferries. Do not let their tiny geography fool you; these islands can pack a punch. Cradled in the Arabian Sea, Daman Diu offers wave after wave of fun for the perfect long weekend. Things to do Daman is a great place to relax at the beachfront while enjoying wonderful food. Chicken bullet and fish fingers are the popular dishes to try here. Sightseeing is enjoyable, especially with the plethora of pretty churches and beaches on the little island. The beaches are less rocky and conducive to water sports. Travelling on bicycles or scooters around Diu is a fun way to explore the churches and various beaches. Places to go Devka, Pargola and Jampore are the famous beaches of Daman. One can also visit the Fort of Nani Daman and Moti Daman. The church of Bom Jesus and The chapel of Our Lady of Rosary are other beautiful tourist hot spots. In Diu, one must visit the Ganeshwar Mahadev temple for the intricate carvings and well preserved idols. The Diu Museum, St. Paul's church and beaches sum up the top tourist locations of the island. The Diu jail, an offbeat tourist spot is best visited at night. Daman Diu was once under Portugal rule. The architecture and style of food still contain elements of their lifestyle. The battle of Diu holds historical significance and is covered well by the museums and relics of the island. Most tourists travel to these tiny islands to soak in the sun and atmosphere beachside. Daman Diu is distinctively different from other beach destinations in India, due to the small town atmosphere it provides. The Diu festival is to be held every year in December to boost tourism in the area which currently stands at 5000 people per month. Things to keep in mind Daman Diu is no doubt clean and safe but it is best to avoid wandering at night on the beaches. The restaurants and hotels provide clean drinking water. Riding on a scooter and exploring the islands is the best way to soak in the atmosphere. Enjoy the fresh sea food at both places which is served at every corner. Budget hotels are available near the popular beaches and city centre. The beauty of Daman Diu lies in the simplicity of their offering. If a sunny weekend on the beach with ample of drinks and food is on your mind then dive into Daman Diu.
