The vice president of the European Commission said that Egypt is the first country in the region to complete the national surveillance of international migration, expecting the rest of the countries to follow suit.
Addressing a conference held to announce the results of the surveillance issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the official said ever since the 1990s countries have been assisted to carry out such surveillances with the aim of verifying statistics obtained by the commission on the economy.
Such statistics could have prevented the economic crisis of 2008, he said, explaining that globalization requires more data.
Director of the International Migration Organization in Cairo Amr Taha said there is always a movement of immigration whether inside or outside the country.
Countries exporting immigration suffer increasing rates of fertility unlike countries receiving immigrants which suffer from decreasing rates and this makes migration necessary for both sides, he said.
