European airlines are using Cyprus as a stepping stone to Israel following suspension of flights to Tel Aviv because of continued fighting in Gaza, an airport official said Thursday.
A spokesperson for Hermes Airports, the firm that operates the two international airports in Cyprus, said that up to ten flights to Tel Aviv terminated at Larnaca Airport on Wednesday.
The spokesman added that planes then arrived from Tel Aviv to pick up passengers who landed at Larnaca.
He said ten more return flights from Larnaca to Tel Aviv were scheduled for Thursday.
American and European airlines, including Cyprus Airways, announced a suspension of flights to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport on Tuesday after a rocket landed a short distance from the airport.
Meanwhile, the United States Aviation Authority on Wednesday announced it lifted its ban on flights to Tel Aviv after a review of the security situation.
