Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department reported, earlier this week, that Thailand earned a record Bt1,864.38 million from on-location film shoots in Thailand during January to August of 2012. The department reported there were 423 films, documentaries, advertising, TV series, and music videos filmed on location in Thailand generating Bt1,864.38 million in tourism related revenue compared to 454 productions and circulated Bt869.93 million during the same period last year. Of 423 productions, there were 70 documentaries, 227 advertising, 65 television programmes, 24 music video productions, and 37 films. Japan film makers topped the list in the first eight months of the year with 94 productions followed by 84 from India, 68 from Europe, 25 from South Korea, 24 from Hong Kong, 18 from the United States, 14 from China, four from Australia, one from Taiwan and the rest 91 from other countries. In August, there were 48 productions that generated Bt133.34 million compared to 53 productions that circulated Bt98.91 million during the same month last year. Of 48 productions, they broke down into seven documentaries, 21 advertisements, 14 television programmes, one music video productions and five films. Japan production teams also led the field in August with 15 productions followed by 11 from Europe, four from India, three from South Korea, two from China, one each from US and Hong Kong, and the rest, 11.
