Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) is getting ready to celebrate the arrival of two leased Airbus A320 planes to join its fleet on December 18 and 22, the national carrier said in a press statement Saturday.
The two leased planes are the first batch of 12 agreed upon planes which KAC leases from Airbus to renew its fleet, Head of the KAC's Media and Public Relations Department Fayez Al-Enezi said in the statement.
He added that the Kuwait Airways has also signed a deal with Airbus to buy a total of 25 planes.
Al-Enezi said the Airbus would continue delivering the remaining leased planes till September 2015.
He described the move as a "significant milestone" for the KAC which has not renewed its fleet for a long time ago.
Al-Enezi stated that the aircraft are an essential part of the KAC ambitious growth plans and would help boost KAC regional route network.
A KAC delegation headed by the Corporation's Chairperson Rasha Al Roumi will head to Tolouse, France, to attend the delivery of the first plane ceremony.
Kuwait Airways signed last February a final agreement with European plane marker to lease 12 Airbus A320 jets and buy 25 aircraft including ten A350-900 and 15 A320neo Family aircraft as part of the airlines' fleet renewal strategy.
Among a series of moves to upgrade its fleet, the KAC also agreed last month to buy 10 wide-body 777-300ER passenger aircraft from manufacturer Boeing.
