Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghani revealed here on Tuesday his attempt to form a leverage force to persuade European political groups to support a Kuwaiti request for granting Schengen visas to Kuwaitis wishing to travel to EU member states. Al-Ghanim made this remark to KUNA and Kuwait TV after discussing the matter with Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the Belgian Parliament Francois de Donnea at the end of the 129th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva. He stressed the importance of rounding up parliamentary and government support to persuade the EU commission to approve a visa-free travel for Kuwaiti citizens to EU countries. Al-Ghanim further said that, at the IPU conference, there was a unanimous agreement on the important role of parliaments to monitor the use of chemical weapons. On his meeting with the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council Ali Larijani, Al-Ghanim described it as "open" and tackled many issues such as continental shelf, marine borders, and the GCC-Iranian relations.
