Kuwait's "Journey of Hope" boat arrived at Alexandria port Tuesday in a new stop of a 22-stop overseas tour to show world Kuwait's special experience in caring for mentally disabled people.
The boat was received at the port by Acting Charge D'affaires of Kuwait's embassy in Cairo Mohammad Al-Mohammad, Representative of Kuwait's Military Office in Cairo Naval Capitan Bashar Abdulreda, Undersecretary of Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs Mohammad Othman, Deputy Chairman of Alexandria Port Rear Admiral Ali Mustafa and several Alexandria Governorate officials.
"The Kuwaiti government offers great care for people with special needs with the blessing of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah," Al-Mohammad told KUNA.
He pointed out that the around-the-world marine excursion reflects Kuwaiti government's interest in supporting all nativities aiming to improve the skills and integrate this important segment into the whole society.
The Kuwaiti sea expedition had gotten underway in Kuwait in early May, passing through 20 countries and 39 ports.
Over 22 celebratory events are held at intervals in all ports en route with a view to unifying people of all cultures and religions towards a collective effort to care for and benefit those with intellectual disability everywhere.
The idea of the worldwide journey was the brainchild of a number of Kuwaiti parents with children having mental disabilities including the Down Syndrome and Autism. The parents wanted to bring awareness to the plight of these children and life's restrictions on them.
